Ray Stephens began the concept for urban survival after losing everything in Hurricane Katrina. He was prepped and ready, but the storm was just too big. Having Canned for almost 30 years, and having fantastic feedback on the recipes he created, he decided to start Urban Survival as a teaching facility. If he could get other people to learn to can, dehydrate, and vacuum seal, then these skills would not waste away.

 

Unfortunately, people were far more interested in buying the foods Ray made than they were interested in making them. Urban Survival Foods was born. Julie La Magna was one of Rays first students, and the two of them started the business in 2008.

We are committed to producing only the finest NON-GMO, Organic foods in Jars. No preservatives in any food we make. It is a real pleasure to see the look on people's faces when they eat "real" food, perhaps for the first time.

 

Before Urban Survival was born, when people asked what was in the Jar, Ray would tell them "Ray's not yet world famous" whatever was in that jar.

Thus the ray'z not yet world famous moniker.
